Basic Types of Sherwin Williams Green Paint Colors to Know

There is a wide array of greens on the swatches. And believe me, they’re all very different from each other!

So, you must know their characteristics, their design style, how they feel, and what best compliments them.

Sage Green

This is one of the best Sherwin Williams Green colors that can make your home feel calm and poised.

Generally, they are grayish-green in nature and tend to have a deep muted and subdued look. Hence, neither too stark nor too subtle!

Some of Sherwin Williams’ popular green colors are from the “Sage Green” category!

These light pastels can make your space appear airy, light, and spacious with a perfect tinge of comfort and crispness.

Furthermore, these green paint colors can also bring a natural and organic vibe indoors – with a perfect sense of timelessness. Yes, it’s best suited for bathrooms, home offices, kitchen cabinets, and bedrooms.

Generally, colors that go with sage green are creamy whites, beiges, browns, taupes, blues, crisp whites, and lighter grays.

Furthermore, you can best use this color scheme in Modern Farmhouse, Modern, Coastal, Contemporary, and Rustic interior design styles.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, Sherwin Williams Contented, and Sherwin Williams Rainwashed are some perfect examples of Sherwin Williams’ popular green colors to have and must try.

Dark Green

Dark green paint colors can bring an utmost moody, daring, and bold vibe.

Unlike the sage green paint colors, these are mostly associated with a sense of splendor, sophistication, luxury, and richness.

Regardless of the size of your space, the dark green paint colors can immediately induce a statement of style and opulence in your space.

Generally, colors that go with dark green are rich golds, lighter grays, taupes, lighter beiges, creamy whites, and ample wooden textures.

And since these dark colors are associated with bringing the walls closer to create a confined and intimate space – they can also be used to create an illusion of a smaller space.

When talking about interior design styles, I highly recommend incorporating this majestic color scheme in Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Eclectic Glam, and Transitional styles.

Furthermore, try using these dark green color palettes as an accent on the kitchen cabinets, bedroom and living room focal walls, and door and window frames.

One of my favorites is Sherwin Williams Pewter Green, Sherwin Williams Basil, and Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog.

Warm Green

Photo by Fresh Coat Painters of Allen McKinney Frisco Plano

Warm green paint colors tend to have a dominant yellow or orange undertone – which is why they feel so warm and cozy.

Just like the earthy hues of nature – warm greens can also be correlated to olive greens.

So, if you want the cool and refreshing hue of green but with a touch of warmth – this is something that you must look forward to.

Colors that go with warm green are browns, creamy whites, tans, taupes, and beiges.

And you can best use them in your bathrooms, living room walls, bedroom walls, kitchen cabinets, and exteriors.

For interior design styles such as traditional and bohemian – this color is quite good to go!

One of my favorites are Sherwin Williams Ancient Marble and Sherwin Williams Liveable Green.

Also, note that this Evergreen Fog paint color can feel quite lighter when painted on the walls and cabinets as compared to the swatch!

So, I always recommend trying a fresh coat of paint to analyze the color and its depth.

Generally, colors that pair well with Evergreen Fog are creamy whites, beiges, browns, taupes, and blacks.

      Hi Sarah,

The colors to complement pink in your nursery would be cool light gray, off-white, navy blue, and lemon yellow! On the other hand, for mauve, you must choose lemon yellow, light gray, dark plum, and off-white!

      Thanks,
      Nish

I am trying to decide on a Sherwin Williams green or blue with gray tone to paint an east facing kitchen with dark cherry cabinets and calacatta Formica 180fx counters. Any advice? The room has one sliding door and good overhead lighting with spot lights and small chandeliers.

I believe you should continue SW Evergreen Fog for the door as well 🙂 That will give a perfectly seamless and soft look. If not, you can also simply pick SW Pure White!

I appreciate your advice on SW green paints. My favorite color. I want to paint my east ( morning), west facing in afternoon) facing living room. I have a light gray love seat, taupe sofa. The room gets quite a bit of light. I want a warm, earthy, feel to the room. Any suggestions?

      Hi Jean,

You must try SW Svelte Sage on the antique cabinet that leans towards the warmer side of the sage green. BM Cloud White is equally a warmer white paint color that complements. Another alternative is SW Clary Sage 🙂
